Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Mineral Make Up

I've always loved the convenience of mineral make up, what's easier than a few swipes of the brush across your face, right? But I don't love the look of mineral make up-- most brands I have tried leave a weird sheen on my face that makes me look like a resident of Madam Trussard's Wax Museum. I know many of you feel the same but this month, Bobbi Brown hopes to change that with her new Skin Foundation Mineral Make Up ($38).

I got a sample courtesy of the BB pr team a couple of weeks ago and have been trying it out in different environments and temperatures-- happy to say, it is the most natural looking one I've use yet (are you surprised? I mean Bobbi is the Queen of Natural Beauty!). If you are not familiar with using mineral make up, follow my instructions below:

For day, apply moisturizer and sunscreen (the Skin Foundation Mineral Make Up has spf 15, adequate if you're in an office all day but I like more re-inforcement) before brushing teeth to give it time to absorb (another trick I use is blotting excess product with the back of my hands instead of a tissue-- that area is usually clean and our hands can benefit from the moisturizer and sunscreen!). Dip a large powder brush into the container and tap the excess back in. Brush the mineral powder on to face in circular motions starting from your jawline and work your way up (I always apply face products from the jaw line and move up because I don't like to pull my skin down, defy gravity at all cost!). You have to make sure your skin is absolutely dry at this point or the mineral make up will not be as even. It only takes about 10 seconds to blend and gives a nice lightweight coverage. Bobbi's mineral make up is triple coated with vitamins, moisturizers and conditioners, plus film formers so it not only gives a silky finish, it gives a slight glow. Step to your window to look in a compact mirror in natural sunlight to make sure you blended well.

For evenings I like a fuller coverage (you never know who's going to take/tag photos of you on Facebook!)-- the instructions said to use a powder puff but I found that to be too heavy. What I prefer is applying three layers using the same day time technique (this takes longer but is so much more natural). It gives a really nice coverage and you can skip using powder. Now if you think you can just layer on top of your daytime make up, you're right. But you'll have to spend more time blending as your face has accumulated sweat/dust throughout the day and you risk looking cakey (yes I did this). If you have the time or if it's an important event like a hot date, start with a fresh palette. The Skin Foundation Mineral Make Up is a great option for those who don't wear foundation regularly or those with oily skin. There are nine shades to choose from, so you can get as close to your own skin color as possible (or buy two to blend as I do with foundation!).

Last word of advice, use a light hand when applying blush over mineral make up and remember to blend blend blend!

Go to a Bobbi counter and try this, it's phenomenal!
